Alyonka Larionov

Alyonka Larionov. A name that is oh so familiar to most male hockey fans, but is it for the right reasons?

She is one of three children of the legendary Soviet hockey player, Igor Larionov, who joined the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL in 1989. Nicknamed "The Professor", Larionov won three Stanley Cups with the Wings and has been in the Hockey Hall of Fame since 2008.

Obviously hockey would have been a major part in his children's lives as well, and undoubtedly has set the stage for Alyonka's career. She has worked as a host for PensTV and is quite well known for dating Ovechkin and Malkin. I don't mean to classify her as a "bimbo-who-has-only-gotten-to-where-she-is-now-because-of-her-daddy", but let's be honest here.

Oh and if anyone will be so kind to inform me of her education (I don't care too much for the name of her high school, I mean if she has any kind of degree) that would be great considering that Google hasn't been too helpful. But you know what they say, if it's not on the first page of Google, it probably doesn't exist. ;)

WOW Russia!

I discovered this website about a few years back and have gone back to it today out of pure curiosity. "WOW Russia!" is an entertaining site discussing the many symbolic things that associate with Russia, created by a design student, Elena Marus.

The blinding pink of the background was purposefully chosen to add some lightheartedness and to make a point of telling the viewers that humour is present in the content. At first, I was a little confused while reading about the stereotypes since some of the things written were true. But I quickly realized that it is done deliberately: in order to inform the readers about the stereotypical objects that associate with the nation, while adding some sarcasm to let the reader decide for themselves where to draw the line. The images are amusing and the site also has other interesting features such as "best phrases to survive". It was created a few years back in 2007, but the content is by no means outdated so definitely check it out!

Gotta Love Them Cats

With the Internet exploding with new adorable cat videos daily, one can find themselves wondering what it is about them that makes them so hard to look at without giving out a sigh of admiration. I'm sure I don't need to give any examples of the many cat videos that have blown up Youtube over the past few years. And what does it really take for an ordinary cat to become the next Youtube sensation? Well a cat has to either have the gift of extreme cuteness, act like a human, or be doing something scandalous or amusing. But the biggest hits are those that combine two or more of the mentioned. And while we ponder the success of viral cat videos, I leave you with a picture of my own cat, Marseille.

Most likely dreaming up new plans of world domination.

Breaking Fast

I woke up feeling inspired today, just like every other day of course, and I decided to make my breakfast plate not only full of yummy and nutritious food, but also pretty to look at.

Centre stage is a slice of lightly buttered toast. Surrounding it are cucumbers, orange slices, brie cheese and cranberries. And to finish it off, we have some delicious green tea to wake me up with its aromas.

I'm not a calorie counter but I think this looks really healthy since we covered all of our food groups except for Meat & Alternatives. Hopefully my day will be as great as my breakfast today!

Have a lovely day!)))

The Help

I recently finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett, which has gotten lots of publicity with the big movie starring Emma Stone and other big names like Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good book and the plot was quite easy to follow despite the many subplots. However, I do admit that I did begin to wonder when it was going to end about half way through. I also didn't really like the many references to To Kill a Mockinbird by Harper Lee and how many have also compared the two.

And while it is important to give up-and-coming authors a chance, some people just don't understand that To Kill a Mockinbird is a classic and will continue to keep its position for decades to come.

Russian Dolls

Hello again. Long time no see. Just writing to clear something up.

I am not in any way related to the TV show "Russian Dolls" and would never ever want to be. Not to offend any of the people involved, but that show is not only an embarassment to Russians abroad, but the entire nation.

If you, however, happen to be one of the blessed ones who has not heard about the show you should look it up, watch an episode and swear to never watch it again.

Introduction

Oh hey blog. Looking awfully empty aren't we? That's okay now! We'll fix that in just a moment. And by we I obviously mean I.

Hello

So yeah I'm just another person giving blogging a shot. To be honest the Internet is getting really overwhelming with Twitter and Facebook and Youtube so I decided to start a good ol' blog.

I was born in Moscow, Russia. Yeah just some random little town no big deal or anything. I am currently living in Canada. I don't really know what I want from life yet.

I have no idea if anyone is actually going to read this, but I hope at least someone will find this helpful or ineresting. Either way, I shall now write here like it is my diary even though I don't have one.

(I know. I know. Way to try to sound like gossip girl. What, didn't I tell you? Cliche is my middle name!)

P.S. Please turn on your sarcasm detectors for the duration of being on my blog. Thanks a bundle)))
